Traditionally, media schools have looked for two qualities in a potential student. These are: general awareness and language abilities. A media school is looking for a student who has good communication and writing skills, has a keen sense of news, and is well informed. An ideal mass communication student should have great technical skills too.

Written Tests: Written tests are conducted to check a candidate’s language, writing skills and his general knowledge.
Technology Test: Nowadays, aspiring journalists and mass media students need be proficient in MS Word, Photoshop, Quark Express. Media schools also want to check the Internet proficiency of students.
Interviews: An interview will give the examiner to check the candidate’s communication skills, his confidence, poise and analytical skills. These are perquisites to be a successful journalist. You can expect some questions on current affairs as they help to examine a student’s general awareness and in-depth understanding of a subject. Hence it makes sense to spend time studying the subjects that are in public domain. Generally, interviewers focus on current issues. For that you can read newspapers, magazines and follow news channels. Besides this, you will also be asked about your hobbies, interests, etc. |
